The lush and rugged countryside of Puerto Rico is a place deep-rooted in agricultural tradition, folklore, and the humble pride of the jíbaros, or mountainfolk who work the land. They say the heart of the real Puerto Rico lies within these peaks and valleys. If so, it beats from Caguas.
Beyond its cultural significance, Caguas is an important business hub, with major pharmaceutical companies and Fortune 500 companies, as well as the state-of-the-art Hospital Interamericano de Medicina and the University of Turabo. As such, our guests form a diverse group, from corporate travelers to families of patients to visitors who want to escape the city and breathe in the mountain air and charm of the rustic interior. Whether you’re here for business or pleasure, you’ll find a warm welcome, a sink-into-sleep bed, and the amenities and services you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Our hotel is the ideal base from which to explore and discover the creole culture that is such an indelible part of the Puerto Rican identity. Begin your tour at the leafy and picturesque Plaza Santiago R. Palmer, just a few miles north of us. Dating back to 1775, this is the birthplace of the town. Visit the Sweet Name of Jesus Cathedral, say hi to our resident macaws and stop by the Caguas tourism office. From here, enjoy the walking tour known as the Route of the Creole Heart, which includes museums and cultural places of interest that will immerse you in the creole history of this area. Plan your trip on a Saturday, when an artisan market sets up in the plaza. This is a wonderful opportunity to see authentic Puerto Rican arts and crafts; around 180 artisans flock to the weekly market, displaying handmade works such as needlepoint crafts, musical instruments, jewelry, ceramics and woodcarvings.
Food is one of the most important (and satisfying!) expressions of Puerto Rican culture, and the Creole cuisine you’ll find in and around Caguas brings you a fusion of indigenous, African and jíbaro ingredients, flavors and recipes. Grilled meats are one of our specialties, particularly spit-roasted suckling pig, or lechón. As our guest, you’ll be happy to know you’re close to one of the most revered culinary destinations in all of Puerto Rico: La Ruta del Lechón.
The view from your bedroom is one of mountains and forests, a verdant countryside that practically begs you to spend your day outdoors. Caguas offers many activities and tours to help you make the most of its scenic environs. The unique William Miranda Marín Botanic and Cultural Garden blends the spectacular flora of the island with groves that recreate and honor the indigenous Taíno, African and jíbaro roots of Puerto Rico. Golf and eco-adventures like ziplining and rappelling in the Carite tropical rain forest are just a short drive from our hotel.
If it’s business that brings you to Caguas, you’ll find more than 6,000 square feet of flexible and well-equipped meeting spaces at our hotel. And when you’re ready to unwind after a day of business or exploration, we invite you to relax in our outdoor pool or test lady luck at our Casino Real.
Welcome to the heart of Creole country. Welcome to our Puerto Rico.
