If you’re an adventure seeker, we know relaxing is not your idea of a vacation. That’s why we compiled this list of places in Punta Cana that will surely make for an exhilarating time.
Bavaro Adventure Park is unreal and definitely worth spending at least a half-day at. With over 15 activities to choose from, kids (old and young) will find something that gets their adrenaline pumping. Some of the favorites include rolling down a massive hill inside of a gigantic inflatable ball (Zorbing), rock climbing, zip-lining, mountain biking, paintball, Segway tours through a jungle, and even a bungee dome that seems to give you super-human power, jumping speed and height.
There’s also a Dino Park, which makes you feel like you’re in the middle of Jurassic Park–without the fear of the electric fence shorting out. There are over 40 life-sized dinosaurs moving and making sounds like they’re really alive (with the help of animatronics, of course).
Tip: Get to the park early to avoid the crowds and the mid-day sun.
The thrilling waterslides at Sirenis Aquagames will bring out the kid in you.
Choose your adventure: Are you going to race your friends down the 4-lane speed slide of the aquaracer or do you want to try out the free fall slide that will certainly get your adrenaline pumping? There’s even a slide called the Twister that drops you in a giant circular dome-shaped slide where you’ll turn and twist like you’re going down a drain. If you’re traveling with the tiny adventure types, there are mini slides, splash buckets and even a baby pool for them to play in and get their wiggles out.
When lunchtime rolls around and you need to refuel, head to the Bar & Grill. While you’re waiting the 30 minutes for your food to digest, take a nap in one of the many hammocks.
Tip: The steep free-fall red slide and the green twister slide will give you the most thrilling rides.
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. Nope, it’s you on vacation!
Securely harnessed in with your helmet and gloves on, you will fly over the tops of trees and through the Anamuya jungle at this thrilling zip-lining site. Before you begin, the staff will go over all of the safety features and teach you how to zip-line. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll walk through a trail in the jungle to get to your first platform.
Surrounded by lush flora and fauna, your guide will fasten you onto the line and you’ll zip from tree to tree. At times you’ll be moving at a nice pace that allows you to take in the scenery and other times you’ll be zooming fast past the birds. By the time you’ve reached the last zip-line (there are a total of 12 zip-lines) your heart will be pumping out of your chest and ready for the fresh fruit and drinks served at the end.
Tip: If you’re going to bring your GoPro, bring the helmet attachment instead of the chest attachment.
What’s unexpected about this excursion with Zip Lines Adventures is what you learn from the staff about Punta Cana and the small local communities of towns you’ll drive through to get to the site. It’s a thrilling excursion but it’s also quite humbling to learn what life is really like in the Dominican Republic. It’s truly an amazing country filled with kind-hearted people.
