One of Dominican Republic’s most popular activities is horseback riding. The varied terrain and many ranches will make it easy to set off on your adventure, whether you prefer to ride along the beach, through a charming plaza or take a tour of the island.
The best place for a horseback riding adventure is Uvero Alto Ranch. Here, the trainers have been working alongside horses for years and have known the island even longer! The experience at Uvero Alto is richer in local culture than other ranches, taking you through an old village and a short forest, but you will also have a few minutes to rest on the beach and have a snack. The staff here are known to climb to the top of the trees for fresh coconut, so you may be surprised with an unexpected refreshment! Be sure to wear long pants, and bring extra cash for a souvenir bottle with a picture of you and your horse on it.
If you’d like to explore terrain that’s a little wilder, check out Horseplay Punta Cana. This adorable Dominican-Canadian ranch that spreads across 300-acres of lush terrain– all yours to explore for the day. Adventure seekers will love this tour, as every adventure comes with zip lining included. An excursion with Horseplay Punta Cana will let you ride through villages, sample authentic Dominican fare and try fresh fruits, coffee and cocoa. They offer two horseback riding inclusive packages, the only difference (for only a $10 add one) is a cattle drive at the end of the tour. On either of the tours, children are encouraged to ride and toddlers are also welcomed to sit in front of a parent for the trip.
Sometimes the most difficult thing about vacation can be thinking of new ways to spend your time. Exploring the grounds from a new perspective is a great change of pace and offers an entirely different view of the island. If you have not yet had a chance to visit Punta Cana, this is the perfect excuse to do just that and escape your hotel for the day. The atmosphere on this side of the island is enchanting and you can always hear a little tune coming from the locals or the nearby wildlife.
