When in Mexico, you drink tequila. This agave-based liquor is Mexico’s national drink and it’s very well liked. Produced only in Mexico, tequila is made out of 100% blue agave. The strict production guidelines make Mexico the only country allowed to make, bottle and examine genuine tequila – and it shows. There is over 100 distilleries located throughout the country, producing upwards of 600 types of blue agave tequila.

This spot located near some of the beach resorts is a crowd favorite for a reason. Not only does it serve some of the best drinks around, this trendy restaurants features great live entertainment and some of the best authentic Mexican food around.
Make this one your go-to spot for buying bottles of liquid gold, which are significantly less expensive here than at other area bars – the staff will even wrap your bottle appropriately for you to take on the plane. Want to try before you buy? No problem! Sampling is huge here and most patrons take advantage of the sampler after their short 25-30 minute tour of the mini museum.
This laid back restaurant with a beachy feel serves up plenty drinks. Tacos y Tequila is a local favorite and popular among the tourists. Stop in and order yourself a margarita- it’s worth it! This fun dive is located downtown near the outdoor shopping mall.
If you’re into history, Restaurant La Destileria is just for you. Here, you can learn the origins of tequila along with the intricate process involved in making it. With the use of a few pieces of original machinery used in production from the old factories, this museum provides a truly unique experience for the tequila lover. The best part comes at the end of the tour, when you get a little tasting and lesson on tequila drinking. A little tequila etiquette never hurt anyone!
After your museum viewing and tour is complete, there’s no need to rush out. Restaurant La Destileria is also a great place for dining in. With over 150 types of tequila to choose from, most not even available north of the border, both the view and menu are worth your patronage.
