45 odd years and counting
Places like El Popular are appreciated because of their home-style cooking. Called 'fondas', these places aren't here to feed tourists and travelers, and the food and prices reflect this attitude. There's no air conditioning at El Popular and the decor is mostly Puerto Rican flags and photographs of boxers and soccer players. Bananas Restaurant
The Best of the Basics
Bananas has some of the best food on the Vieques Island, including charbroiled New York sirloin, barbecue back ribs, and marinated boneless breast of chicken. Slightly more exotic main dishes might include the grilled Jamaican-style jerk chicken or the lemon chicken sautéed in butter and wine. You could also opt for the grilled fresh catch of the day served with lemon butter. The chef is also known for his pizzas and sandwiches are available at lunch, including grilled chicken and fresh fish.
