Annual Dominican Jazz Festival
Various Venues Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata

Celebrated in the Northern town of Puerto Plata, this eminently tourist event features performances by premium international jazz artists such as Chuck Mangione, Ramsey Lewis, Bobby Sanabria, who have previously performed, among others. Scheduled activities, including presentations and nightclub parties, take place in the different hotels of the Puerto Plata and Sosua area which, along with the Dominican Tourist Board, sponsor the festival.

Jardín Botánico Nacional
Altos de Galá Santo Domingo

The Doctor Rafael Moscoso Botanical Garden was built under Act 456 in 1976. This scientific and educational institution provides a beautiful sanctuary where plants and animals live in harmony. The staff offers ongoing courses on garden design, horticulture, cultivation and care of orchids, ferns and bonsai, as well as flower arrangement and other arts. The garden is open to visitors year-round.

The Dominican Carnival
El Malecón Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional

Each year, usually near Independence day (celebrated on February 27), the streets of Santo Domingo come alive with song, dance and revelry in celebration. The carnival parade snakes through El Malecón as participants dressed in a diversity of colorful costumes shake their noisemakers. After the official parade breaks up, parties continue throughout the night. The main characters of this celebration are the cojuelo devils, dressed in original costumes in vivid colors topped with picturesque masks filled with horns.
